Today our girls (Loreto Darjeeling) took part in waste collection around the motor stand & market, followed by segregation of waste after which various brands were audited. This was done to compile data and submit to a local NGO Prerna working with a common platform 'Zero Waste Himalaya'. They have organised a massive cleanup program from Jammu and Kashmir to Tripura on 26th May. Altogether 100 organisations n individuals have registered. We preponed this cleanup keeping in mind that children have to study for their approaching exams. The compiled data will be presented at a workshop in Delhi on 5 the June, World environment day to lobby n pressurise the Govt. To take action against these Companies and make them accept responsibility for their plastic packaging that is littering the mountains. Take steps to make it more degradable and recyclable.
